Quality and other technical information related to this item:
General
For the 1993 NSCG, this item was not obtained directly from
the survey form but was instead obtained from the sampling frame.
The 1990 Decennial Census Long Form was used to construct the sampling
frame, and thus some information routinely collected by the census, such
as gender and race, was known about each respondent even before the
1993 NSCG survey data was collected.
For some surveys, the response for this data item was not obtained directly
from the survey form, but was instead available from an administrative
data source outside SESTAT, and is indicated by the word "SYSTEM" for
the source. In other cases, the survey contractor assigned codes to
verbatim responses. A typical example involves the location codes, either
state or country, for universities or colleges. The survey form asks
the respondent to provide the name of the university at which a degree
was earned. When the survey results are processed, the name of the
university is compared to an external lookup table containing university
names and their location codes. When a matching university name is found,
the corresponding location code becomes part of the SESTAT database.
This variable is derived from other variables within SESTAT. More information is available on the derived U_DEM_MULTIPLE_RACE_CAT page
