Reinterview data indicated this item has good reliability when the number of degrees is less than four (consistency index equals 15, 16, and 11 percent for one, two and three degrees). With four degrees or more, reliability decreased (consistency index equals 40 percent), but this affected about only about two percent of the NSCG sample. Reliability decreases if the values are grouped because the number of respondents with four or more degrees is small. Item nonresponse was very low (1.7 percent for the NSCG and less than 1.0 percent for the NSRCG).
