General
This data element was collected as part of a new requirement by the Office of Management and Budget to allow reporting of more than one race by survey respondents. This data represents individuals who marked ‘Black or African-American’.

In 2010, the Division of Science Resources Statistics (SRS) discovered quality issues in race and ethnicity data from the 2003 and the 2006 Survey of Doctorate Recipients (SDR). The SDR is a component of the Scientists and Engineers Statistical Data System (SESTAT); thus, 2003 and 2006 SESTAT data files are likewise affected. These race and ethnicity data have been revised and validated and associated files and documentation updated. SDR and SESTAT data on variables other than race and ethnicity were not affected.
